
Indian Treaty tetrad
– My preliminary attempt to consider Canadian Indian treaties from an Indigenous
point of view.
Obsolesces: Indigenous authority over traditional territory,
self determination, any commercial natural resources activities, depriving
communities of an economic base, destining Indigenous peoples and communities
for poverty.

Indian Treaty - considered from an Indigenous point
of view

Retrieves: The reserve as a safe place to live, limited
protection for food on traditional lands, Indian status (mostly negative), discrimination
(cultural, social, economic and educational)

Reversal: Indian population moving to cities, Status vs Urban
Indian issues, culture loss, self government, culture gain, dignity.
